Western Digital

Western Digital is the world's leading manufacturer of hard drives. With a long history as a manufacturer of integrated circuits, it was founded on April 23, 1970 as General Digital, initially a manufacturer of test instruments for MOS integrated circuits, then became a manufacturer. In July 1971 it adopted its current name and moved to Newport Beach, California. In 2001 it was the first company to offer ATA hard drives with 8 MB cache buffer. In 2003 it produced the first SATA (Serial ATA) disk drive, with disk spindle speeds of 10 000 rpm. In 2012, it entered the networking market producing routers, switches and other networking products.
